COLIS: From launch to science in orbit

Scientific operations have officially started for the COLIS instrument aboard the International Space Station. On August 24th, two new cell modules – carrying a protein and a gel sample – launched on SpaceX’s CRS-33 mission. Developed by Redwire Space Europe with our high-tech optical diagnostics onboard, COLIS enables now light scattering studies on proteins and colloids in microgravity. After years of design, integration and testing, the optics are finally in action, marking a major milestone since the instrument’s arrival on the ISS one year ago.
